BHI360 from Bosch is the smartest programmable inertial measurement unit (IMU) sensor available on the market today. BHI360 is a 6-axis programmable IMU-based sensor system that combines a gyroscope with an accelerometer that allows for full customization. The IMU comes in a small package measuring just 3 mm x 2.5 mm which is 50% smaller than the previous generation. The integrated sensor fusion library enables 3D audio with head orientation for personalized sound experiences as well as simple gesture recognition. By allowing users to customize the IMU’s behaviour, programmable IMUs can provide more precise and accurate measurements, as well as more efficient and effective data processing. It can be used in wearables and hearables, smartphones and tablets, etc.

A programmable IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) is an IMU that can be customized and programmed by the user to perform specific tasks or to suit specific application requirements. A programmable IMU typically includes a microcontroller or a digital signal processor (DSP), which allows users to program and configure the IMU’s operation through software. This can include setting sampling rates, filtering algorithms, sensor calibration, and other parameters. IMUs are commonly used in a variety of applications, including aircraft navigation, robotics, drones, and virtual reality systems. They are particularly useful in situations where GPS signals may be weak or unreliable, such as indoors or in urban environments.

The BHI360 consists of a Fuser2 core, a 32-bit ultra-low power microprocessor. The Fuser2 core is a co-processor that offloads the main CPU from the sensor data processing task such as sensor fusion, position tracking, gesture recognition etc, thus significantly reducing the power consumption. The BHI360 also features pre-installed sensor fusion software and algorithms in a single package. They can also be used to create custom algorithms and applications, enabling new possibilities for sensing and control. The BHI360 is suitable for use in applications such as smartwatches, fitness bands, smart glasses, smartphones, tablets, AR/VR/MR headsets etc.
