ROHM has released BD9xxN1 series of LDO regulators that are capable of providing stable operation at nanoscale output capacitance. The capacitors are specifically developed for application in various automotive applications and are optimized for primary (direct connection to 12V) power supplies in a wide range of applications such as powertrain, body, ADAS, and car infotainment systems. The regulators can handle a wide range of output capacitances as low as 1μF and come in an ultra-compact 0603/0402 size.

The BD9xxN1 series includes BD950N1G-C, BD933N1G-C, BD900N1G-C, BD950N1WG-C, BD933N1WG-C, BD900N1WG-C. According to the company, the LDO meets all the necessary requirement such as operation at high temperature of up to 125°C, it also satisfies the AEC-Q100 automotive reliability standard, and input voltages greater than 40V for the primary power supply.

The number of components has kept on increasing due to the digitization of different equipments, that has forced designers to incorporate smaller components or increase the size of the product. But with small capacitors of 1μF or less it has been difficult to achieve stable operation in applications. But the BD9xxN1 series can help overcome this problem. It incorporates ROHM’s Nano Cap ultra-stable control technology that supports an output capacitance of 100nF, this improves the stability of operation even when the load current and input voltage are not stable and suffer from fluctuatations.
The Nano-Cap technology refers to an ultra-stable control technology which is achieved by combining advanced analog expertise covering circuit design, processes, and layout utilizing ROHM’s vertically integrated production system.

Application Examples of BD9xxN1 series are:

  • Powertrain (i.e. fuel injection) and tire pressure monitoring systems (TPMS)
  • Body systems of vehicle such as body control modules.
  • ADAS which includes domain controllers, ECUs, Zonal processing
  • Infotainment that includes instrument clusters and head-up displays (HUD)
  • The regulators are also suitable for a wide range of applications in addition to automotive primary power supply systems.
