A new global design challenge from element14 Community invites engineers and makers to develop intelligent, electronics-driven solutions for smarter production lines, focusing on automation, monitoring, and predictive maintenance.

The element14 Community has launched a new global design challenge aimed at accelerating electronics-led innovation in industrial automation and smart manufacturing.Announced from Bengaluru, the competition calls on engineers, makers, and tech enthusiasts to develop intelligent production-line solutions focused on monitoring, uptime optimization, and product testing. Selected participants will receive component kits from leading suppliers to build working prototypes or test rigs, with judging based on creativity and effective use of electronics components.
The challenge emphasizes practical applications of smart industry concepts, including predictive maintenance systems, RFID-based tracking, inventory management tools, and production line monitoring platforms. Other suggested builds include miniature factory demonstrations and open-source conveyor systems, reflecting the growing role of embedded systems and automation electronics in modern manufacturing.
According to Andreea Teodorescu, the initiative aims to blend hands-on engineering with real-world industrial problem solving, while encouraging knowledge sharing across the global community.
To qualify for prizes, participants must document their development process and publish a final project blog detailing their design approach and component usage.
Top winners will receive professional-grade test and measurement equipment, including a Multicomp Pro MP720013 Oscilloscope for first place, a Multicomp Pro MP750511 Waveform Generator for second, and a Multicomp Pro MP3055 Bench Digital Multimeter for third. All successful participants will also receive a Multicomp Pro AC/DC Voltage Clamp Meter.
Applications are open until April 12, with project submissions due by June 21.
