Designed for efficiency, reliability, and safety, the latest switch technology offers reduced power loss, space savings, and over one million switching cycles—far exceeding conventional solutions.

Smarter Power Switching For EV

As the automotive industry moves toward hybrid and electric powertrains, conventional 12 V and 24 V battery systems are reaching their limits. To meet the growing power demands of modern vehicles, 48 V architectures are becoming the new standard, enabling improved efficiency, reduced wiring complexity, and enhanced passenger comfort. The electrification of power distribution systems requires replacing traditional relays and fuses with more advanced solutions.

Addressing this need, Infineon Technologies has launched the Power PROFET + 24/48V switch family, designed to optimize power distribution in next-generation vehicles. The new switch family features two high-side switch variants housed in a compact TO leadless package: BTH50030-1LUA with an R_DS(ON) of 3.0 mΩ and BTH50015-1LUA with an R_DS(ON) of 1.5 mΩ.

Key benefits include:

  • Enhanced efficiency & space-saving design: The 8-pin TO leadless package reduces the footprint by 23% compared to conventional D2PAK solutions.
  • Advanced safety & reliability: Built-in short-circuit, over-current, and over-temperature protection enhances vehicle safety, while diagnostic features improve fault detection.
  • Optimized performance in harsh conditions: With a low on-resistance of 1.5 mΩ, these switches operate reliably in hot cabin and engine compartments.
  • ISO 26262-ready: The family meets PRO-SIL safety standards, supporting functional safety evaluations.

These switches minimize power losses in high-current applications, making them ideal for electric, hybrid, and commercial vehicles. Their high integration, resettable functionality, and diagnostic capabilities ensure long-term reliability, with over 1,000,000 switching cycles—far exceeding the 200,000 cycles of conventional relays. They are now in production, with samples available upon request. A dedicated Arduino shield (BOARD BTH50015-1LUA) facilitates evaluation, and the product line will soon expand with the BTH50060-1LUA (6 mΩ variant).
