Nexperia, Netherlands has launched a new series of gate driver ICs, engineered to drive both high-side and low-side N-channel MOSFETs in half-bridge or synchronous buck configurations. The NGD4300-Q100 is specifically designed for automotive applications, such as electronic power steering and power converters, while the NGD4300 targets use in DC-DC converters for consumer electronics, servers, telecommunications, and industrial micro-inverters. These gate drivers are aimed at automotive manufacturers, industrial system integrators, and power electronics designers seeking to improve the performance and durability of their systems.

The gate driver series includes a floating high-side driver that operates with bus voltages up to 120V, featuring a bootstrap supply and integrated diode. This simplifies system design and reduces PCB size, making it ideal for applications where space is limited. Capable of delivering peak currents of 4A for sourcing and 5A for sinking, these drivers provide fast switching even under heavy load conditions. Their quick rise and fall times which is 4ns for rise and 3.5ns for fall allows for higher efficiency and better control of high-frequency systems. The gate driver also boasts a low 13ns delay and minimal channel-to-channel delay of just 1ns, helping reduce dead-time and ensuring efficient switching cycles.

“These ICs mark the first release in our new series of half-bridge gate drivers,” said Irene Deng, General Manager of the IC Solutions Business Group, Nexperia. “By leveraging process innovations, Nexperia is meeting the growing need for robust gate drivers that can boost efficiency in power converters while enabling smoother motor control across automotive, consumer, and industrial sectors.”

The latest gate driver series are manufactured using a silicon-on-insulator (SOI) process, enhancing their robustness for motor control and power conversion applications. This process allows the ICs to tolerate negative voltages on the high-side pin down to -5V, reducing the risk of damage from system-induced voltage spikes. Available in DFN8, SO8, and HSO8 packages, the drivers offer flexibility for engineers to choose the best configuration based on size and thermal requirements.

With these innovations, the company’s NGD4300 series sets a new standard for gate driver ICs, providing a powerful solution for high-efficiency, reliable, and compact automotive and industrial systems.
