Designers of high-power circuits often struggle with limited board space, accurate current sensing, and efficient power handling. Standard resistors may require paralleling multiple elements to handle high power, which adds complexity, increases size, and can reduce measurement accuracy. Temperature variations can also affect performance, and high resistance values can lead to power loss and lower efficiency.

The Vishay Dale WSLF1206 Power Metal Strip current sense resistor solves these challenges. It combines a high power rating of up to 5 W, a TCR down to ±75 ppm/°C, and extremely low resistance values down to 0.3 mΩ, all in a compact 1206 case. With power ratings 20 times higher than standard 1206 resistors, it achieves a power density exceeding 650 W/in², allowing designers to save board space without paralleling multiple resistors. Its low TCR ensures stable, accurate current measurement from -65 °C to +170 °C, and its low resistance minimizes power loss and improves efficiency.

This resistor is suitable for all types of current sensing and pulse applications, including switching and linear power supplies, power amplifiers, shunts, inverters, and battery management systems. Typical applications include industrial motor drives, robotics, power tools, HVAC systems, UPS systems, graphics cards, data storage, VRMs for supercomputers, and consumer appliances. The device is sulfur-resistant, RoHS-compliant, and halogen-free.

The current sense resistor uses a solid manganese-copper, nickel-chromium aluminum alloy resistive element with low TCR, delivering high power in a small size while maintaining the superior electrical characteristics of Power Metal Strip technology. The device also features low thermal EMF and very low inductance to minimize signal distortion.
