The timing chip supports 800G speed, saves space, uses less power, and helps AI systems and datacenters run fast and work efficiently.

SiTime Precision Timing Enables New Architectures for More Efficient AI Datacenters
SiTime Corporation has introduced the SiT5977 Super-TCXO, a single-chip timing device in its Elite RF family. It features a differential-ended design with the industry’s highest frequency output and delivers 80 femtosecond phase jitter.
The device consolidates several discrete timing components into one, which reduces board complexity and frees up space for additional processing or memory resources in dense systems. Its low-jitter output supports stable high-speed data transmission, helping to maintain link integrity in 800G and faster interconnects. The precise tuning capability allows system designers to embed control loops or dynamically adjust frequency based on operating conditions, without external circuitry. The internal voltage regulation eliminates the need for separate LDOs, streamlining power supply design and reducing the component count.
These improvements directly impact system-level design in AI compute clusters and datacenter networking. Tighter synchronization across nodes improves task orchestration, minimizes idle time, and reduces latency in distributed workloads. Better timing also enhances network telemetry, allowing operators to detect underperforming nodes early and prevent downtime. Smaller size and higher integration allow compact architectures without sacrificing performance.
For datacenter operators and system architects, the result is a lower total cost of ownership, improved energy efficiency, and better utilization of compute resources. The SiT5977 supports scalable AI infrastructure with higher performance, fewer timing errors, and reduced complexity—enabling more reliable and efficient next-generation systems.
Some of the key features of the SiT5977 include:
- Works well under airflow and temperature changes
- Supports digital control via I2C and SPI
- Offers ±400 ppm tuning range with 0.05 ppt precision
- Has built-in voltage regulators
- Resists shock and vibration
- Small size with 156.25 MHz output for 800G links
“Improving AI workload efficiency to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions is an industry-wide challenge. Precision timing is one of the approaches to help solve this problem,” said Dave Altavilla, president and principal analyst at HotTech Vision & Analysis. “SiTime is the only semiconductor company fully dedicated to developing innovative timing solutions required for the complex scaling of today’s AI datacenters.”
